Iconic Stellenbosch wine estate, Spier, has enlisted Lauren Shantall Integrated Communications to manage PR and media relations across its wine, leisure and hospitality offerings.
Says agency Director Lauren Shantall: “Working on Spier, one of the oldest wine farms in the country, is a privilege for my team. Not just for Spier’s incredible historical and contemporary cultural value. But because we see an absolute alignment between what our company stands for and the values Spier expresses in its good business journey, a commitment that Spier has undertaken with thorough sincerity, authenticity and effectiveness for over a decade. Spier leads the way in sustainability, hospitality and winemaking yet remains one of the country’s most accessible and cherished brands.”
Spier produces a range of award-winning wines, but is also home to one of the only four-star hotels in the winelands, with picturesque views overlooking the Eerste Rivier. There’s a variety of restaurants on the farm – visitors can choose from farm-to-table dining options to an artisanal smokehouse to seasonal picnics on the Werf. A wide range of activities are available, such as Segway tours, tasting experiences and a visit to the Spier Artisan Studio. Spier, as an avid and longstanding supporter of the arts, also hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year.
Shantall continues, “We are thrilled to be able to share news of Spier’s top wines, it’s newly restored historic Werf with a range of fresh restaurant offerings, and its generous hotel and beautiful grounds, which boast 21 original Cape Dutch Gables – the most of any wine farm in the country! We are incredibly proud to be partnering with Spier at this time and are thrilled to have been approached to manage its public relations in the lifestyle sector!”
Scout has received substantial recognition thanks to its implementation of creative PR and marketing strategies for numerous clients in the hospitality, food and wine, art and design sectors, receiving a BWA award in 2016. The agency’s respected portfolio of clients was key to establishing this partnership with one of South Africa’s most celebrated winelands establishments.
Annebelle Schreuders, Spier Marketing Director, says of the appointment: “We approached Lauren Shantall as we were very impressed with their work and reach in the lifestyle media. We also felt that there would be a great fit with Spier, considering our commitment to the arts.
Scout’s list of clients includes eateries such as Mulberry & Prince, The Yard and Chefs Cape Town. The agency has previously represented Fairview Wine and Cheese and Spice Route Wines.
