Now, Rockethorse Racing is extending its current offering from the exhilarating Race The Wild Coast adventure horse race to include a trail running component as well. Scout PR & Social Media has been appointed to launch the new Baleka Trail Run via a targeted social media marketing campaign.
Race the Wild Coast is a 350 kilometre multi-stage horse race, which happens every October. It combines the spirit of the frontiersman and the modern horseback adventurer, testing horsemanship, endurance, survival and navigational skills across the iconic Wild Coast of South Africa. Race The Wild Coast is sponsored by KTC and supported by Jack Black Beer. Southern Lodestar Foundation is the nominated beneficiary and every kilometre covered helps towards feeding more children in need.
The concept for Baleka Trail Run was born when legendary ultra-trail runner Steve Black asked the organisers if he could “race the horses” during Race the Wild Coast 2018. Black went on to finish on the morning of the fifth day, spawning the idea of opening up the field to a limit crew of runners in 2020.
Baleka means ‘run’ in isiXhosa. But this is not just any run – this is a 320km, 111-hour, single-stage trail running challenge, constituting one of the toughest in the country. The new Baleka Trail Run will take place from 20-24 October 2020 on South Africa’s Wild Coast, with the trail heading out from the Mzamba River in the north to the mouth of the mighty Kei River in the south.
